After long but very civil discussions refereed and organized by /u/n_reineke, we've added a couple of new rules. The first new rule was already mostly enforced but wasn't an official rule yet:Reposts that are currently already on the /r/pics front page will be removed.Another rule that was already enforced but not official is aimed at the makers and creators of reddit:You are only allowed one link per post. Anything more can result in temporary or permanent bans. Accounts that exist solely to advertise will be banned. The next rule is a common sense rule. We're not here to facilitate witch hunts on other subs or mods of other subs. So posts like "The asshole mods of /r/gaming removed this. Let's show them that it's actually cool" will be removed. No Sub-related Meta Drama or Witch hunts. The next rule is to prevent generic titles for stock images. Posts like a pic of the Tiananmen Square massacre with a title like "China wants to censor the Internet" would get removed whereas a title like "Famous tank man at Tiananmen Square" would be approved. A pic of Obama with the title "Obama" would also be removed as that can be the title to every Obama pic.Stock images(celebrity pictures, pics of politicians, "viral" photos or historic events) must be directly related and have a descriptive title. And finally, we are implementing two new title rules which we hope will work to improve the overall quality of submissions. The first one is pretty self-explanatory and is aimed at reducing the number of "My boyfriend/aunt/mom/cat painted this but is too shy to post it" titles. We don't really like targeted rules like this, and hope a better rule evolves down the road.No sharing works on behalf of friends or family unless they are included in the photo. The second one is supposed to curb the style of titles wherein the details have literally no relation to the picture at all. Please keep in mind that we still want to allow some creativity for titles.A title like "I just came out of an abusive relationship, I'm 2 days sober, I have a mentally challenged brother, and this is where I sleep" with a picture of a bed would get removed, while a title like "My very first own bed!" with the same picture would not.All elements of title-based backstories must somehow relate to the content of the image. Here are a couple more examples of what would and wouldn't be removed under this rule:My depression is crippling most days, but my child has the most beautiful smile and always cheers me up. (Picture of smiling child)My mother died of cancer last year and we just got married today, I'd like to think she was there with us. (Wedding day picture)After years of battling addiction, I just got my first car! (User with car)This next couple are to show that "sympathetic" details can be relevant and are acceptable:I just kicked cancer's ass! (Bald-headed hospital bed selfie)My disability doesn't keep me from doing the thing I love most! (1-legged dude running a marathon)I doodle in this notebook whenever I'm depressed, here are a few pages I'm pretty proud of. (Said doodles)As mentioned, these changes represent a first attempt at a very small adjustment to the rules. We'll be assessing its effectiveness in the coming weeks with the goal of improving it down the road. And finally, the monthly report(as always all numbers exclude automod/other bot actions):FebruaryDataDifference to last monthCommentsTotal Moderation Actions25,760-6,539a shorter month and less controversySubmission Removals (includes spam)5,840-121a shorter month and less controversyComment Removals (includes spam)6,879-2,257a shorter month and less controversyPosts Approved3,504-682less controversy=fewer reportsComments Approved2,730-3,973less controversy=fewer reportsBans (perma&temp)1,539-698less controversy=fewer bansUnbans148-85about the sameReports Ignored1200-77please keep reporting anywaysPosts Locked4-5Witch hunting post/excessive self-promotion/very uncivil post&self-harming postUsers muted84-131Less bans because of less controversial posts
